Making Glass

Did you know that glass is made from sand? Sand is melted and then cooled. It is turned into glass. The cooling is what makes glass clear. You can see through it. You can tell how thin glass is by how clear it is. Thinner glass is clearer. There is colored glass too. You can see through it, but not as much as clear glass. Colored glass is made by adding color. There is blue, green, and brown glass. Sand is soft. It smells like earth. If you touch glass, it is hard. If you sniff it, it has no smell. It is hard to think that glass was once sand.
